The Diclonius are a fictional mutation of Homo sapiens characterized by distinct physical and psychic features. Notably, they possess two horns protruding from their heads, which are often associated with their perceived supernatural abilities. Along with these physical traits, Diclonius are endowed with a unique "sixth sense" that grants them telekinetic powers, allowing them to manipulate objects and influence their environment with their minds. These abilities make Diclonius extraordinarily dangerous and difficult to contain.

Due to their formidable powers and their unpredictable nature, Diclonius are typically regarded as threats by society. Governments and organizations have resorted to extreme measures, capturing and imprisoning them in secret laboratories for experimentation. These facilities aim to understand their abilities and, unfortunately, often prioritize containment over the well-being of the individuals involved. The fear surrounding these mutants has fueled numerous conflicts and ethical dilemmas involving human rights and scientific responsibility.

One of the most prominent Diclonius in the story is Lucy, a young woman who exhibits a disturbed and psychotic personality. Despite her dangerous potential, Lucy manages to break free from captivity, initiating a brutal rampage where she kills multiple guards. Her escape is marked by violence and chaos, culminating in her being shot in the head. Remarkably, Lucy survives the gunshot, an event that leaves her with severe memory loss. Her amnesia marks a turning point in her story, as she drifts aimlessly until she reaches a quiet beach.

On this remote coastline, Lucy encounters two teenagers, Kouta and Yuka, who find her injured and helpless. The teenagers take her in, offering her shelter and care. Struggling with her memory and identity, Lucy adopts the name "Nyuu," which is the only word she can utter at this point. Her new life with Kouta and Yuka marks a period of relative peace and care, contrasting sharply with her turbulent past. As she begins to settle into a normal life, the shadow of her former self, the sinister "Lucy," continues to lurk beneath the surface.

Despite her apparent recovery and the kindness she receives, the dark side of Lucy remains a threat. The duality of her personality—gentle and innocent one moment, violent and destructive the next—drives much of the narrative tension. Her story raises complex questions about identity, the nature of evil, and the consequences of scientific experimentation. The ongoing presence of her malevolent alter ego hints that her peace may be fleeting and that her dark past could resurface at any moment, threatening everyone around her.
