Several hundred years ago, humanity faced near-annihilation at the hands of creatures known as Titans. These beings are typically several stories tall and exhibit no signs of intelligence. Their primary characteristic is their appetite for human flesh, which they seemingly devour for pleasure rather than sustenance. This relentless threat forced humans to adopt desperate measures for survival, leading to the construction of enormous fortifications to keep the Titans at bay.
To protect themselves, some humans retreated into a large, heavily fortified city, surrounded by towering walls that are taller than even the largest Titans. These barriers were initially thought to be sufficient to keep the Titans out, allowing human civilization to flourish within. However, the threat of attack was always lingering, and life within the city was governed by constant vigilance and fear of a potential breach.
For over a century, there have been no confirmed sightings of Titans within the city walls, creating a fragile sense of safety among its inhabitants. This period of peace, however, was shattered in an instant when a colossal Titan suddenly appeared out of nowhere and destroyed the outermost wall. This unprecedented event marked the beginning of a new chapter in humanity’s struggle for survival, as the city was exposed to the terrifying possibility of full-scale Titan invasion.
Following the breach, smaller Titans flooded into the city, wreaking havoc on its streets. During this chaos, a young boy named Eren and his foster sister Mikasa witnessed a horrifying scene — their mother was brutally eaten alive before their eyes. This traumatic event fueled Eren’s resolve to fight back against the Titans. Filled with anger and a desire for justice, he vows to eradicate every single Titan and avenge his family as well as all of humanity.
The story of Attack on Titan continues to explore themes of survival, human resilience, and the moral complexities of warfare. As the remnants of humanity attempt to recover and rebuild, they must confront not only the terrifying Titans but also the darker aspects of human nature. The ongoing battle and the mysteries surrounding the origins of the Titans remain central to the narrative, making it a compelling and thought-provoking series.
